Dengue Fever in Bali
There has been dengue fever in Bali, Indonesia and Hawaii and other islands for many years. It just seems to be a bit more prevalent since 2015. Tourists cases are still rare and it’s normally contracted in rainy season and in areas of high density population.
There are no warnings to advise people to NOT go to Bali. But it’s advised to talk to your doctor or go to travel clinics for more detail on prevention and symptoms.
The tourists are still flocking to Bali and many familieskids and other travellers are just being a bit more mindful and taking a few preventive precautions.
Prevention:
When outdoors:
- Use a strong mosquito repellent spray
- Early morning and late afternoon dress in protective clothing such as long-sleeved shirts, long pants, socks, and shoes.
- Cape Union Mart sell Life Trek Mosquito Bands – that last up to 48 hours, this is a great addition along with a spray or cream.
- Make use of mosquito nets at night
Signs & Symptoms:
- Fever
- Headache
- Joint Pain
- Low Back Pain
- Muscle Pain
- Nosebleeds
- Pain Behind the Eyes
- Rash
- Vomiting
- Bleeding Gums
- Bone Pain
- Difficulty Breathing
- Easy Bruising
Treatment:
If you suspect you may have Dengue Fever please visit your closest medical clinic for testing.
You will be advised to:
- Getting plenty of bed rest
- Drinking lots of fluids to avoid dehydration from vomiting and high fever.
- Take medicine to reduce fever
Avoid pain relievers that can increase bleeding complications — such as aspirin and ibuprofen.
