Greg Bertish chats to Sean Holmes about the Holmes family trip to the amazing Maldives. After seeing Sean’s beautiful photos, Greg is so keen to take his little family there too and asks Sean some very BAD ASS surf and family questions.
- How good is the set up and Resort?
Sean -“Kandooma is one of the better land based resorts I have been to – possibly one of the best family surf destinations I have experience (when looking at the whole experience). Accommodation is nice and comfortable, staff super friendly, food offering excellent and general premises well maintained and good working order. There are plenty extra activities for the whole family to enjoy”
- Rate the wave right out front at Kandi resort out of 10 for?
Sean -“Quality – 9/10
Crowds – 10/10
Access and location 10/10”
- Tell us about it in 1 sentence?
Sean -“The wave has excellent shape, is long (300m+) and has both super playful sections and a more intense barrel section. You can position yourself depending on your comfortability. The scenery is epic and water quality amazing. Yes, the Maldives doesn’t have the same wave strength as Indo but you cannot fault the shape and the scenery and water quality is superior to Indo.”
- Did you surf any other waves?
Sean -“There are a few waves in close proximity. We had plenty swell so didn’t need to travel far. We focused on Rip Tides, Foxy’s, Kandooma Right and the Sand Bank for the kids.”
- Why is the Resort so nice for a family?
Sean -“It’s comfortable; everything is super accessible and well organised. You can literally just arrive and relax. The general resort guests are also more family orientated which means there’s a far more relaxed feel.”
- What were your daughters’ thoughts on it? (ages 5 & 7) what did they love about it?
Sean -“They absolutely loved the whole experience. Couldn’t get them out the water. The diving was great and they enjoyed surfing on the Sand Bank out front – perfect learn to surf wave and also super scenic.”
- What did your wife love about it?
Sean -“Jeannie really enjoyed the surf and how relaxed everyone in the water was. Crowds were never a factor and there were plenty waves for everyone to enjoy. She loved the diving and the quality of the resorts food offering. And of course the evening moonlight walks around the island.”
- Did your kids and wife get to surf and snorkel? Tell us about it please.
Sean -“Surfed and snorkelled every day for 10 days straight! You cannot help but just fall into the water every day …everything is on your door step.”
- As a holiday for a family with surf, how does this set up and Resort rate out of 10?
Sean – “We scored great surf and amazing weather and our resort experience was superb so I cannot fault it. I’m not sure what it would be like without surf and bad weatther but regardless there’s still plenty to do for everyone.”
